How Skills-for-Skills relates to potential and strengths

Skills-Based Hiring

A skill is a strength if the person is energised (motivated) when using that skill and high performing. In other words, motivation and performance identifies if a skill is also a strength. Someone may possess a skill but it may not be a strength. Skills based hiring refers to hiring for skills.

Hiring for Potential

Identifying whether a skill is a strength helps uncover potential to grow and further develop that skill. Organisations have been adopting this approach for many years - identifying when an individual is motivated to develop the skill but hasn’t yet had the experience or training to put it into practice either through time or disadvantage. iring for strengths supports the identification of potential and diversity, equity and inclusion and favourably and fairly impacts employability in meaningful and scabable ways.

Assessing Skills-for-Skills

Cappfinity has created an assessment called “Skills That Build Skills”. This will be free to use and can be accessed here (ready soon), including terms and conditions of usage.

Skills that are also Strengths are when an individual performs well in that skill and is motivated to use it. Cappfinity’s Skills That Build Skills assessment helps to identify where an individual has Strengths in the Eight Skills-for-Skills framework.

Cibyl researches school and university student perceptions of their skills and will cover these foundational skills in the future. This supports school and campus brand and student engagement strategies.
